Edie Parnum and Barb Elliot, Ph.D. co-founded the Backyards for Nature program of Valley Forge Audubon Society in 2002. As Co-Directors of the program, they provide information about making yards more wildlife-friendly, give presentations to local groups, write articles about habitat and attracting wildlife for the Valley Forge Audubon Society newsletter, offer on-site consultations for improving backyard habitat, and assist homeowners in obtaining backyard habitat certification.
Edie and Barb are both certified National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Habitat StewardsTM and have received additional training in gardening for wildlife and native plants at various workshops and conferences. Both have had NWF-certified Backyard Wildlife HabitatsTM for over 10 years, and are volunteers for the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology’s Project FeederWatch. They also participated in the PA Breeding Bird Atlas project.
In addition, Edie is Ornithology Chairperson for the Valley Forge Audubon Society, a bird walk leader at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, and the compiler for the Valley Forge Audubon Christmas Bird Count. She is a Fellow of the Delaware Valley Ornithology Club.
Barb is a former board member of the Habitat Resource Network of Southeast Pennsylvania and has been an amateur researcher for Bat Conservation International’s Bat House Research Project. She is passionate about hosting birds, butterflies, frogs, bats, and other wildlife on her property and sharing that experience with others.Contact the Directors by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
