To help assess the movements of American kestrels and better understand why they are declining, the science team at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has deployed over 100 color bands with a number and letter combination (both red and green) on both fledglings and adults. Some sport tiny backpack radio transmitters as well. As kestrels are starting to disperse out of the study area, Hawk Mountain is seeking help in re-sighting these tagged birds.

Please report any sightings to Mercy Melo, Hawk Mountain PhD student working on the kestrel project, at mlmelo@umass.edu

Thanks!
