If you attended one of our recent binocular presentations, we mentioned the once yearly sale at Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO) as a place to try many binoculars and get good discounts.  This year’s dates have been announced and they are Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10 from 9 am to 5 pm.  You will need to get there early for the best selection.  The following details have been provided by CMBO.

With vaccinations available to everyone, free masks at your local pharmacy, continued sanitizing, and a more open layout in the classroom, we are planning to hold the Optics Sale IN-PERSON again this year at our Center for Research and Education (CRE) at  600 Rt 47 North in Goshen, NJ!

Manufacturer’s representatives from Kowa, Leica, Swarovski, Vortex & Zeiss will be at CRE to inform you about their newest gear and answer your questions. Celestron and Opticron will also be participating in the sale, though representatives are not able to attend. Check out the latest advances in optics & accessories, and “try before you buy” among a selection of nearly 100 binoculars and 25 spotting scopes!

  • Shop demo products, discontinued items, and manufacturer’s specials; there should be deals for everyone, whether you’re looking to save big on high end optics or find an affordable entry level bargain.
  • Seven optics brands will be 10% off Minimum Advertised Price on most stock.
  • Quantities are limited so come early for the best selection! TAKE ADVANTAGE of knowledge gleaned from the manufacturer’s reps and try out their samples while making your decision.

If you’d like to compare optics of interest before the big sale or take advantage of any manufacturer’s sales or clearance items that are already on sale, visit CMBO’s Northwood Center on Wednesday through Sunday, 9:30 – 4:30, prior to the Optics Sale. The Northwood Center in Cape May Point will NOT be open to the public during the Optics Sale Weekend, as all staff and optics will be at the Center for Research and Education for the sale event! It will also be CLOSED on Friday April 8 while we move stock and prepare for the sale and will reopen on Wednesday April 13. Except for the two sale days, the Center for Research and Education is closed to the public. Call the Northwood Center (609-400-3868) with any questions.

The sale is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so take advantage of these great savings and invite your friends and fellow birders! At CMBO, we also TRULY appreciate your support through membership and hope that you’ll join or renew with CMBO or NJ Audubon. ONLY members get a 10% discount on all books, gifts, NJA & CMBO clothing, bird feeders and houses, and other birding accessories, as well as lower member rates on programs, field trips and workshops.
