The VFAS Spring Bird Count (SBC) takes place this year on Saturday June 3, and unlike the Christmas Bird Count, which monitors the population of wintering birds in our area, the SBC is held during breeding season. The data generated from both surveys can be used to estimate changes in populations of species and direct bird conservation efforts. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to help, and beginning birders will be paired with more experienced birders. The more volunteers we have, the more areas that can be thoroughly covered. This is a great opportunity to get out into the field with one or two other people, hone your birding skills, and contribute to avian research and conservation. Volunteers are assigned to teams that cover locations in 11 territories that are within a predetermined 15-mile diameter circle centered on the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove.
Please register with Vince Smith by June 1 at larusvs34@gmail.com or 484-410-1157 to be assigned to a team and location.
