The results of 2025 Bird Safe Philly monitoring of window collisions in Philadelphia are now available. Bird Safe Philly is a partnership led by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Audubon Mid-Atlantic, Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, Liberty Bird Alliance, National Audubon Society, and Valley Forge Audubon Society. The Bird Safe Philly partnership aims to create safe spaces for birds by developing awareness of the issue of bird collisions and implementing solutions, working in partnership with the Philadelphia community. Through Lights Out, Collision Monitoring, and Taking Action, Bird Safe Philly strives to engage individuals, organizations, and the community in better understanding bird collisions and the solutions that can be implemented to help prevent these collisions.
Spring 2025 Results
In Spring 2025, 193 bird collisions were observed, a decrease from approximately 240 reported collisions in Spring 2024. Most collisions were reported at Independence National Historic Park (121). Others were observed in Center City (54) and Gray’s Ferry (17). There were 46 bird species reported to have collisions. The most common were Ovenbird (35), White-throated sparrow (22), Common Yellowthroat (11), and Gray Catbird (10). Thirty-three birds were transported to Schuylkill Center for rehabilitation.
Fall 2025 Results
In Fall 2025, 545 bird collisions were observed, an increase from the 534 collisions reported in Fall 2024. Most collisions were reported in Center City (315), followed by Independence National Historic Park (116) and Gray’s Ferry (114). There were 59 bird species reported to have collisions. The most common were White-throated sparrow (114), Ovenbird (56), Common Yellowthroat (52), and Black and White Warbler (46). There were 101 birds transported to Schuylkill Center for rehabilitation.
