Wildlife in Need PA has reached out to us for help in their efforts to recruit volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact them through their website, Facebook page, or by phone, all listed below.
Wildlife in Need Emergency Response of PA (WIN) is a volunteer, non-profit, statewide network for capturing injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife and facilitating transport to a PA licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility.
WIN advises concerned callers on wildlife situations they encounter and responds to wildlife needing to be captured if volunteers are available. If the animal is already contained (either by the finder or the WIN volunteer), WIN can help the finder to locate the closest wildlife rehabilitation center for treatment.
There are 3 types of volunteer opportunities:
- dispatcher, providing information to callers, and alerting WIN’s network of volunteers in the caller’s area when assistance is needed with a capture.
- capture & transport (C&T) permittee, capturing sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife and containing them for transport. These volunteers obtain a C&T permit from the Pennsylvania Game Commission. While WIN responds to all kinds of wildlife (with a few exceptions), C&T volunteers can decide what kinds of animals they feel comfortable interacting with.
- courier, assisting C&T permittees, law enforcement officers, and businesses with the transport of contained animals to the nearest licensed rehabilitator.
Volunteers are needed across the state. Training and support are provided for all volunteer positions.
