2023 Christmas Bird Count
Please join us for the 2023 VFAS Christmas Bird Count!
The Christmas Bird Count is an annual winter survey of birds that is the oldest continuously-running community science project in the western hemisphere. Valley Forge Audubon Society (VFAS) has been conducting a Christmas Bird Count every winter for over thirty years at locations within a designated geographic area which is centered around Audubon, PA. Held every year on the Saturday before Christmas, this year’s count will take place on December 23rd.
By volunteering for this event you are helping to provide population data for use in science, especially conservation biology, which helps scientists determine the long-term population trends for birds in our area. It’s also a fun way to break up the hustle and bustle of the holiday season with some relaxing time in the outdoors in the company of friends both old and new.
Teams of volunteers are assigned specific locations at which to survey birds. Beginning birders are welcome to take part and will be assigned to a team with experienced members. Because this census takes place during the holiday season and many people travel, we can be short of volunteers for the count. If you are in town and want to help, please contact Vince Smith (484-410-1157, email@example.com). The more eyes and ears we can recruit, the better the survey.
Thank you in advance for your help with this important project.
