An Evening in Nature at Welkinweir

Evenings are always a magical time to be out in nature and nowhere is a late summer evening more lovely than at Welkinweir, a private nature preserve whose name means “where sky meets water”. Normally closed to the public in the evenings but open tonight only to us, we will enjoy the tranquility of this marvelous place during the ‘golden hour’ around sunset, delighting in the birds, mammals, plants, insects, and more that call this peaceful preserve home. Come relax, breathe deeply, and enjoy an evening in nature with us. Perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to catch some early nighthawks flying over the pond or the resident beavers taking a swim.

This field trip is open to explorers of all ages, although children must be accompanied by an adult. We will be travelling a little over a mile along unpaved and uneven dirt footpaths over the course of two hours, so please wear sturdy shoes with good tread. There is one steep hill to navigate.

Bring binoculars if you have them and meet in the visitor parking lot west of the main entrance. Restrooms are available on site.
