After the heat of summer days, evenings can be a magical time to be out in nature, and nowhere is a summer evening more lovely than at Welkinweir, a private nature preserve “where sky meets water” and home to the Green Valleys Watershed Association (GVWA). Join former GVWA intern Eric Hughes and Valley Forge Audubon Society board member and PA Master Naturalist Patty Werth as they traverse the grounds of this beautiful former estate – normally closed to the public in the evenings but open tonight only to us. We will enjoy the tranquility of this marvelous place as we take delight in the birds, mammals, plants, insects, and more that call this peaceful preserve home.
This field trip is open to explorers of all ages, although children must be accompanied by an adult. Be advised we will be travelling a little over a mile along unpaved and uneven dirt footpaths over the course of two hours, so please wear sturdy shoes with good tread. There is one steep hill to navigate.
Please bring binoculars if you have them. A portable restroom is available on site.
