Beginners Birding by Ear

As the weather warms and the days grow longer, the birds begin to sing to welcome spring.  Ever wonder which birds you are hearing?  Birding involves more than just using your eyes, but learning bird sounds can be confusing.  Join leader Rick Keyser as he introduces beginners to bird identification through birdsong.

Rick will explain strategies for learning bird sounds and what a beginner should expect when just starting out.  He will give tips and techniques for memorizing bird song and for distinguishing between similar bird sounds, and how to link bird vocalizations to specific species. No masks are required for outdoor programs, although VFAS encourages all participants to be fully vaccinated and asymptomatic to attend.

Bring binoculars if you have them, and dress for the weather.  Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
