Birding and Plant Walk in Swarthmore’s Crum Woods

To find us: We will meet at the Swarthmore train station at 2 S. Chester Rd (Route 320) at 7:45 am. There is a large parking lot off Chester Road just to the north of the underpass (GPS: WM32+62) as well as free and paid street parking around the train station.

What birds stop in the Crum Woods as they migrate south for the winter, and what plants grow there to support them? Join this walk in the Crum Woods in Swarthmore to find out. Experience and learn about the migratory and year-round resident birds that utilize this habitat as well as the native and non-native plants that can be found in this wonderful 202-acre forested area.

All levels of birding experience are welcome, and children are most welcome if accompanied by an adult. The walk will cover a little over a mile of moderate terrain with some hills. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for potentially rutted and muddy trails and bring binoculars if you have them. If you have extra binoculars you would be willing to lend to another participant, please bring them as well. Heavy rain cancels the walk.

Please note that there is no restroom available at the Crum Woods.

The leaders will record the birds that are seen and heard in eBird. The list will be available to all on the Valley Forge Audubon Society website after the walk.
