Birding Basics for Beginners

Join presenter Lon Myers for this family-friendly fun and humorous talk about birding as an interest, followed by a short bird walk.  Topics to be covered include how to identify birds without binoculars, easily identifiable bird characteristics, the behaviors of birds and of bird watchers, choosing guides and apps, shopping for binoculars, and how to make silly bird noises.  Families are encouraged to join (any children must be accompanied by an adult) and no binoculars or previous experience are necessary.

Presenter: Lon Myers is a self-taught naturalist who has led nature walks for nearly 50 years. He is currently Chairman of the Allegany Nature Pilgrimage, an annual nature event sponsored by the Audubon Societies of Rochester, Buffalo, Jamestown and Erie, NY. Lon currently resides in the Philadelphia suburbs and has generously offered to lead this program for Valley Forge Audubon Society.
