Birding For Beginners

Are you interested in bird watching but have no idea where to start?  Or have you recently taken up birding and would like some help?  Then this is the outing for you.  Join Valley Forge Audubon Society guides Eric Hughes and John & Patty Werth on this field trip specifically designed for beginning birders.

As we wander about the park searching for birds we will discuss the basics of birding, including how and where to find birds and what to look for when you find one.  We’ll talk about bird identification, field guides, bird sounds, and the proper use of binoculars. The pace of the field trip will be slow to allow for plenty of instruction and questions.

This program is hosted by the Bird Town Program of West Vincent Township’s Environmental Advisory Council and is free and open to the public.  Children are welcome and encouraged to attend if accompanied by an adult.  Please bring binoculars if you have them – there will be a very limited number available to borrow.  Note that trails are earthen and uneven and may be muddy.  There is a portable restroom available on site.

Note that Opalanie Park was formerly known as West Vincent Township Park at Bryn Coed
