Birding MontCo’s Upper Schuylkill Valley Park
Bring the whole family! This early morning outing — #4 in our VFAS special series of birding five MontCo parks by the end of June — is an especially great opportunity for the kids. They are up this early anyway, right?! And this outing has a special treat: at the end of our birding, MontCo staff will introduce us to the rescued owls and hawks living there at the park’s Wildlife Center.
We will start from the lower parking lot (plenty of parking, too), and bird for about two hours, sauntering out and back along the Schuylkill East Trail, described as a “bird lover’s paradise”, especially in the spring. The wide trail is a natural surface trail, mainly flat, with woods on one side and water on the other. In good weather it can also accommodate strollers, as well as those who have limited mobility or utilize a scooter, walker, or wheelchair – so a great opportunity for all.
No prior knowledge of birds or birding is necessary to attend – beginners are always welcome! Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring binoculars if you have them, and dress for the weather.
A portapotty is available on site at the lower parking lot.
