Birds and Beers at Green Lane

The 800-acre Green Lane reservoir and the surrounding 3,000-acre park of forests, fields, and wetlands have been designated as an Important Bird Area.  A total of 250 species of birds are considered regular here, including more than 20 species of ducks and 30 species of shorebirds.

Join us as we travel by car to multiple stops around Green Lane reservoir to look for birds, particularly waterfowl, before ending the trip for some camaraderie, food, and micro-brews at the nearby Perkiomen Valley Brewery.

Travel times between the stops range from 5 to 9 minutes.  Bring binoculars as well as a spotting scope if you have one.   Keep in mind the breeze off the water can often be cool, so dress appropriately.  Restrooms are available at most of the stops including the first one, all of which are stationary or involve minimal walking.

At the end of the trip those who are interested can gather with the leaders at the Perkiomen Valley Brewery (101 Walnut Street, Green Lane, PA 18054) which is just a 3-minute drive from where the trip began.  For those of you just interested in meeting us at the brewery, we should be there shortly after noon.
