Birds and Beyond: Nature Meets Agriculture at Lundale Farm

Wild birds and farming – can they peacefully coexist?  At Lundale Farm, the answer is yes.

Lundale Farm is a community of regenerative farmers working to enhance the ecology, health, and diversity of the land.  Because the farm is sustainably managed, it not only provides fresh local food for consumers but also provides excellent habitat in which birds can thrive.

Join us to explore the variety of bird life that feeds, breeds, shelters, and travels in the fields and woodlands of Lundale Farm.  In the two years that VFAS volunteers have been surveying the farm, almost 100 species of birds have been detected, and that number is certain to increase during our monthly birding field trips here this year as we move from winter to spring to summer to fall.  We will also discuss some of the “old-is-new” techniques that are utilized to ensure that the farmlands remain productive for birds and people alike.

These birding field trips will cover 1-2 miles over gently sloping grassy and gravel surfaces where the footing can be uneven and muddy.  Please bring binoculars if you have them and wear good hiking shoes.  Beginners and children (accompanied by an adult) are always welcome at Valley Forge Audubon Society events.

A portable toilet is available on site.

Directions and parking:  Look for the Lundale Farm sign on the west side of Route 100 near the bridge over French Creek.
