Evening Birding at Welkinweir

Come enjoy the beauty of Welkinweir in the evening, when the grounds are usually closed to the public.  Being out in the evening gives us a chance to observe birds rarely seen during the day, and if we are lucky we may get a look at a migrating Common Nighthawk hunting insects over the pond, or hear the song of an Eastern Screech-Owl.

Meet in the visitor parking lot west of the main entrance.  Sturdy shoes are recommended as all footpaths are unpaved and uneven with one steep hill to navigate. Beginning birders and children (accompanied by an adult) are welcome and encouraged to join.  Please bring binoculars if you have them.  A portable restroom is on site.

Masks are not required for this outdoor program, although VFAS encourages all participants to be fully vaccinated and asymptomatic to attend.
