Fat Tuesday Birding at Kardon Park

Celebrate Mardi Gras with us on this Fat Tuesday birding trip to Kardon Park near Downingtown. Also known as The Ponds, the park contains 10 acres of fishing ponds and more than 40 acres of open green space including woods and wetlands. While we find charm and magic in all the birds we encounter, on this day we will especially search for birds that sport the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold. (And yes, there are even some that sport all three: think of the Mallard drake.) We’ll be dressing for the day in those same colors – join us if you wish.

We will meet at the southern end of Kardon Park in the parking lot by the large pond. The trails here are flat and paved or natural surface. There is no bathroom facility at the park, but there is a portable restroom at the Struble Trail parking lot a half mile away (which we may go by, depending on the interest of the group.)

Bring binoculars if you have them – Mardi Gras beads are optional! Beginning birders and children (if accompanied by an adult) are always welcome on VFAS outings.
