Hawk Watching at Rose Tree Park

What is a hawk watch?

It’s an outdoor event where people gather to spot and count migrating raptors like hawks, eagles, and falcons. Held during the fall, it’s a perfect opportunity to discover what those hawks are that keep flying overhead – and you don’t have to be an experienced birder or even get up early to do it!

Raptor afficionado John Mercer will be the official Hawk Watch counter and will be stationed at the gazebo in this Delaware County Park from 9 am until 4 pm. He’ll be identifying raptors (and other birds) that pass by and answering questions, making it a perfect opportunity to learn from an expert. And if you’re lucky, maybe a kettle of broad-winged hawks will pass by – one of the most amazing spectacles in hawk migration. (This event is timed to coincide with the peak of their migration through this area.)

Stay for as long or as little as you like. Bring a chair, snacks, water, and a hat/sunscreen if you are going to stay a while. Bring binoculars if you have them, and your curiosity. Whether you’re a birdwatcher or just looking for a unique outdoor experience, this is a great way to spend a few hours – and John would love the company.
