Mid-week Birding Mosey at Harriet Wetherill Park

Please note: This park has two entrances. Be sure to use the one off of Butler Pike into the large parking lot, where we will meet.

Harriet Wetherill Park is pleasing proof that excellent birding can be found even right off of a busy thoroughfare in a populated area. We hope you’ll join us for a 2-hour or so leisurely exploration as we search for fall migrants and regular residents. We find mid-week birding here extra-enjoyable because the birds are busy and the park is relatively quiet. There is almost always at least one birding “surprise”, an unexpected species that day, sometimes even before we leave the parking lot!  In early fall, we’ve seen great blue herons and osprey, migrants such as palm warblers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers and blue-headed vireos, year-round residents such as bluebirds and wrens, and more.

Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for the easy 1+ mile route we will follow on paved and natural paths through fields, some wooded areas, past the small creek and butterfly garden.  All ages and experience are welcome, including children if accompanied by an adult. If you are a new or occasional birder, this is for you!  We will have a few extra pairs of binoculars to borrow.
