Nesting Season Field Trip at Welkinweir
If you think you are busy this time of the year, try being a breeding bird! Hungry nestlings and fledglings abound in June, keeping adult birds bustling. Join us as we traverse the varied habitats of Welkinweir, a 224-acre nature sanctuary in northern Chester County, to try to spot some of these featherd families. Welkinweir is closed to the public on weekends, so we will enjoy the solitude of the wetlands, meadows, ponds, gardens, and woodlands at this special place, which is also home to the Green Valleys Watershed Association.
All experience levels and ages are welcome and encouraged to join us, including those new to birding. And please, do bring the kids with you! This outing will cover a little over a mile and will last approximately 2 hours. Bring binoculars if you have them, and wear sturdy shoes with good tread as all footpaths are unpaved and uneven and may be muddy; there is also one steep hill to navigate.
Meet in the visitor parking lot west of the main entrance. A portable restroom is available on site.
