Night Hike and Exploration
Join us for a family-friendly program to explore nature from dusk to darkness. We will do a bit of everything—learn the mythology of stars, planets, and constellations while making naked eye observations, learn to call owls and identify frog and insect calls, marvel at the bright colors of fluorescent minerals, look for fireflies, and illuminate the darkness with a natural torch.
We will gather at 8 pm to listen to the cicadas and evening bird song; then the program will begin at 8:30 pm and will end by 10:00 pm. Bring flashlights and dress for the weather, and wear sturdy footwear. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Any North Coventry Township COVID protocols in place at the time of the event will be followed.
Presenter: Lon Myers is a self-taught naturalist who has led nature walks for nearly 50 years. He is currently Chairman of the Allegany Nature Pilgrimage, an annual nature event sponsored by the Audubon Societies of Rochester, Buffalo, Jamestown and Erie, NY. Lon currently resides in the Philadelphia suburbs and has generously offered to lead this program for Valley Forge Audubon Society in conjunction with North Coventry Township in Chester County.
