Remembering John Gerhart: Boots, Birds, and Brews

Valley Forge Audubon Society lost a friend when John Gerhart passed away suddenly in early March.  John attended many birding and hiking outings with VFAS, and particularly loved the ones that ended with a social gathering at a local brewpub.   Please join us while we remember John and celebrate his life during an outing that combines all three of these things:  birds, boots, and brews.

John loved to hike around the grounds of Mill Grove, site of the John James Audubon Center.  We will begin our hike there at 3:00 pm, covering around 2 miles in about 90 minutes, birding along the way, so please bring binoculars with you.  (If you don’t have binoculars we will have some to borrow, as that’s what John did for the first three years we knew him!)  After our birding hike we will head to Bald Birds Brewery (970 Rittenhouse Rd, Audubon 19403) to lift a glass – or two – to John in remembrance and in celebration of the joy he found in nature, and the joy we found in him.

We plan on arriving at the brewery between 4:30 and 5:00 pm, so please feel free to meet us there if you don’t join us for the hike/bird walk.

Note: Please use the main entrance to Mill Grove at the intersection of Pawlings Rd and Audubon Rd. In some cases, GPS may not recognize the main entrance road and will want to take you by Old Mill Rd, which is the back entrance.
