Summer Birding Stroll at Norristown Farm Park

Norristown Farm Park – parking lot #3  (GPS coordinates 40.144157, -75.348572)

Summer birding can offer an amazing variety of species as seasonal migrants and year-round residents are all very active with nesting and fledgling-raising activities. Norristown Farm Park is the perfect place to find many of these busy birds since, as the park website describes, it has the “unique and breath-taking beauty of woods and agricultural fields, combined with a stocked trout stream”.

Come join us as we check out some of the birds’ favorite spots on our 1+mile route, scouting for everything from indigo buntings, orioles, and bluebirds to green herons, phoebes, and red-tailed hawks. Our easy birding will take about two hours, but you may leave earlier if desired.

The wide path is mostly paved, with some flat, natural areas, and one or two areas with a slight incline, and can also accommodate those who have limited mobility or utilize a scooter, walker, or wheelchair.

No prior knowledge of birds or birding is necessary to attend – beginners are always welcome. And please, bring the kids along, even in strollers – our programs are open to all ages, although children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring binoculars if you have them.  Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for comfort and safety (no summer sandals or flip flops).

Accessible restroom facilities are on site.

Location: Norristown Farm Park; Parking lot 3: turn off of Germantown Pike onto Barley Sheaf Drive, stay right and follow it back as it becomes Upper Farm Road and the entrance to the park. Follow the park road all the way down to where it dead ends at Parking Lot 3 (there is a sign).
