“For the Love of Bluebirds”

It’s hard to think of a more uplifting bird than the bluebird, with its cheerful song, friendly presence and colorful sky-blue plumage. It’s unsurprising to learn that bluebirds have long-standing associations with feelings of joy and hope, with the idea of the “bluebird of happiness” a common one around the world.

In this informative program, bluebird expert Nancy Fraim will help us to more fully appreciate the life activities of bluebirds, the dangers they face, and how we can attract them to our own backyards while providing a safe environment in which they and other songbirds can thrive.  She will discuss the life cycle of bluebirds, their nesting needs and habits, and what each of us needs to do to be a good landlord for this once-endangered and truly beautiful little bird.

Nancy Fraim taught elementary students for 39 years before retiring in 2015. During her tenure as a science teacher in Downingtown Area School District, she taught her students the love of bluebirds. When she retired she became an active member of the Bluebird Society of PA, serving on the Board of Directors and as Membership Chair.  Nancy resides with her husband, Joe, and a backyard full of bluebirds in Downingtown.
