Winter Birds at Heebner Park/Zacharias Trail (RESCHEDULED)
Heebner Park and the adjoining Zacharias Trail have a variety of habitats and naturalized areas. At this time of year, we’ll be looking for sparrows, sapsuckers, kinglets, brown creepers, and year-round resident birds. A large flock of cedar waxwings were seen on a recent visit by the leaders. It is possible to see bald eagles here, too. They nested along the trail last year but we won’t be visiting the nesting location on this outing.
Beginning birders and children (accompanied by an adult) are welcome to join us on this 1.5 to 2 mile stroll. The trails are flat and mostly gravel-covered and there is a restroom on site. Bring binoculars if you have them. The leaders will have a pair to loan out. Use the entrance on Valley Forge Road (Rt 363). Park by the tennis courts (40.195118,-75.352760). Do not use the Heebner Rd entrance. Note that GPS may show the town as Worcester or Collegeville.
