Another Natural Lands property, the pasture and woodlands of this former farm now serve as a wildlife habitat and site for research and education. There are no restrooms, so we will meet in front of Giant in the Bradford Plaza Shopping Center. Bring lunch and water, or we can eat out nearby.
DIRECTIONS: From West Chester, take Route 322 west to the first traffic light after Route 162 has angled off to the left. Turn left into Bradford Plaza. Giant is on the right side of the Plaza. This hike is mostly on the Horseshoe Trail, some good hills. Lunch in St. Peter’s Bakery Restaurant after hike.
DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of Rts. 23 & 100. Go West on Rte. 23, 3.5 miles, then make right on St. Peter’s Road. Go about a mile, through St. Peter’s Village and park in lot on left at the end of the town.

Bryn Coed Preserve (1869 Flint Road, Chester Springs) is a 1,505-acre mosaic of forest and farmland. and one of the newest Natural Lands preserves. This protected area includes a Pennsylvania Champion white oak, the headwaters of the Pickering Creek, and several Bald Eagle nesting spots. Miles of hiking trails meander past 19th century stone farmhouses, historical ruins, and other remnants of the land’s agricultural past. Join us as we look to add new species to this new birding hotspot's bird list.

This is a loop, mostly flat. We will head out on the paved bike trail toward Pawlings Road, then take a wooded trail past the old Wetherill Barn and return via the Betzwood trail along the Schuylkill river. Hopefully, the bluebells will be in bloom.
DIRECTIONS: Take Route 422 west to Route 363. Take the exit for 363 north and immediately bear left onto Trooper Road south. Cross over Route 422 and drive back toward the river. Take the second road on the right into Betzwood Park. Park in the picnic area near the restrooms.

May 4, 2019 –
Join us for an early morning bird walk as we explore the Stone Hill Greenway in Lower Frederick Township. This walk is at the beginning of the spring migration. The goal is to intercept neo-tropical local breeding birds as well as those that are just passing through to regions further north. Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars and ID books.
