8:30 am: Photo Walk @ Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area
July 13, 2019 –
This is a special time of year at Middle Creek. In the fields and meadows, grassland birds and butterflies are abundant and adult birds are tending to their fledglings. We hope to see bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks, eastern bluebirds, barn and tree swallows, eastern phoebes, sparrows, and warblers. Hopefully the Prothonotary warblers will be nesting again this year in their favorite swampy area. We will explore several areas including the wildlife drive, the meadow at the visitor center (hummingbird feeders!) and a few forested areas where we can find eastern towhees, wood thrushes, and ovenbirds.
Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot (GPS: 100 Museum Rd, Stevens, PA). Bring sunscreen and hat, bug spray, lunch, snacks and plenty of water. Rest rooms and picnic tables are located at the visitor center! In the event of rain, the walk will be cancelled.
Non-photographers welcome but the pace of the walk will be slow with an emphasis on getting good photographs.

5:00 pm: BrewBirding @ Black Rock Sanctuary and Stable 12 Brewing Company
July 24, 2019 –
Located along a bend in the Schuylkill River and previously used as a desilting basin, Black Rock Sanctuary, located at 953 Black Rock Road (Route 113), is 119 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and meadows. Since being reclaimed this area has become an important habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds as well as resident birds. Our walk of 1-2 miles along paved and improved trails will be followed by a trip to Stable 12 Brewing Company (368 Bridge Street, Phoenixville) where we hope to continue birding while enjoying brews in the outdoor beer garden.

10:00 am: Hike @ Militia Hill/Fort Washington State Park
August 1, 2019 –
If the meadow we hike through is in bloom, it’ll help us enjoy the Green Ribbon Trail. Also, some pretty Wissahickon Creek views.
DIRECTIONS: From the blue route, 476, take exit 20 (Plymouth Road), stay to the left up to Plymouth Road & turn right. Turn left at the light (short distance) for Butler Pike. In a short distance (before the curve), turn right on Militia Hill Road (stay straight!). Go about 2 miles to the dead end at Stenton Avenue (traffic light) & turn left. In about 100 yds, turn right on Militia Hill Road (traffic light). Stay on this for over a mile (you’ll cross Joshua Road) to the entrance on the right (there’s a Militia Hill Picnic Area sign but it’s small so slow down. There’s also a Fort Washington Park sign to the left of the entrance but it faces the road so it’s harder to see. Follow the road as it curves to the right and turn right into parking lot. (There’s a bird- viewing stand opposite parking entrance).
