December 28, 2019 –
Join us for the 119th Christmas Bird Count. The count is the longest continuous census in the new world. The count stretches from the high Arctic to South America. By volunteering for this event you are helping scientists determine the long-term population trends for birds in our area. The annual event includes teams of birders surveying eleven sections within a prescribed 15-mile diameter circle, the center of which is the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove. Beginning and experienced birders are welcome. Section leaders will notify past participants.
New volunteers, please register (with Vince Smith - email@example.com) by December 15 to be assigned to a team.

9:00 am: Bird Walk: Barnegat Inlet State Park
January 4, 2020 –
Barnegat Inlet SP lies at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, NJ. We will meet birders at the State Park lot behind the famous lighthouse at 9 am. After scanning Barnegat Bay, we will walk alongside the jetty bordering the Inlet, birding there and along the Atlantic Ocean beach, returning to the lighthouse by 12 noon through the dunes. Target birds include Harlequin and Long-tailed Ducks, Common Eider, Purple Sandpiper, and Great Cormorant. Birders should anticipate cold and windy conditions, and dress accordingly. Water and sunblock recommended. The walk will be followed by clam chowder on LBI (Ship Bottom)
