An Introduction to Birding

Birding, or bird watching, is a fun activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and experiences and is one of today’s fastest growing recreational hobbies.  If you’ve had a passing interest in birds but don’t know how, when, or where to start your birding journey, this program is for you.

During this stationary outdoor program we will explore the basics of birding:  where to go, when to go, what equipment is useful, what to look for, how to make identifications, and codes of conduct to follow when in the field.  Then we will spend some time practicing what we just learned.

Birding is for all ages (so please bring the children!) and all abilities (accessible parking and facilities are available), so if you have been thinking about beginning to “bird” come and let us help get you started.

This program will be held rain or shine since we will be stationed under a covered pavilion.  Bring binoculars if you have them (we will help you get them adjusted properly).  Accessible restrooms are available on site.

Meet in the visitor parking lot west of the main entrance.
