Plant Walk at the Great Marsh

The Great Marsh Institute is on private property so registration for this program is requested.  Please RSVP to lori@greatmarshinstitute.org.  The Institute and grounds are not open unless you are attending a program.

Join us for a walk at the Great Marsh Institute to identify introduced and invasive plants.  We will look for plants in various stages of growth to help you identify them at different times of the year.  We will discuss how invasive plants can harm local habitats and their impact on birds, mammals and insects.  We’ll also point out native plants that you can plant in your yard instead of some of the popular non-natives.

Parking:  Drive down Moores Rd (off of PA Rte 401) and across the small bridge.  When the drive splits, stay to the right.  Park on the grass above the large stone house facing the trees.

We will walk back down the lane to the field where we will do the walk.  The walk is mostly level but not wheelchair accessible.  Please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants.  Because we are in a marsh you can expect wet areas.  We will be both out in the sun and in the woods so use sun protection and bring bug spray if you want.  The walk will last an hour, longer if there is interest so it’s good to bring water also.  You are welcome to bring binoculars and field guides if you have them.  There is a pretty good cell phone signal so phone apps usually work if you have any such as Seek or Audubon.
